  • No Child Left Behind (NCLB Act) - Four key principles: Every child can learn, we expect every child to learn, we must hold ourselves accountable for every child's education and we must assess whether a child can read and do math at grade level.
  • Student Support and Academic Enrichment (SSAE) - Three key principles: Provide all students with access to a well-rounded education, improve school conditions for student learning and improve the use of technology in order to improve the academic achievement and digital literacy for all students.

FOCUS ON STUDENT SPECIAL EDUCATION (SPED)

  • Recruiting and hiring of highly qualified trained SPED counselors, teachers and assistants.
  • Full state certified SPED teachers and trained SPED assistants.
  • Teachers in physical education, music, art and electives trained in SPED sensitivity.
  • Parents awareness of SPED rights under IDEA, Section 504, IEP, ADA and NCLB.
  • Parents awareness of SPED family resources and training (SPEDTEX, Texas Parent to Parent, Navigate Life Texas, etc.).

CAMPUS SUCCESS

  • Provide a safe learning environment for students and staff.
  • Provide administrators and educators the knowledge and skills to provide the students with the opportunity to meet challenging state academic content standards and student academic achievement standards.
  • Intervention programs to help students improve or overcome educational and social difficulties.
  • Improve classroom management skills.
  • Gifted and Talented Education/Talented and Gifted (GATE/TAG) enrichment for all students.
  • Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) enrichment for all students.
  • Emergent Bilingual (EB), English Language Development (ELD) and English as a Second Language (ESL) student progression and achievement through the Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC).

TRANSPARENCY & ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Ensure full transparency regarding all KISD issues not under an ongoing investigation or lawsuit.
  • Ensure KISD is not in violation of any federal, state and local laws, regulations, policies, etc., to include Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Texas Education Code (TEC) and KISD school board policy.
  • Ensure all KISD school board closed session meetings are being conducted pursuant to the requirements of TEC and school board policies. No closed session meetings to protect KISD violations.
  • Ensure Superintendent is fulfilling all KISD contractual obligations and delivering campus and student acceptable results per TEA.
  • Annual district and campus satisfaction survey by KISD staff and families with results posted on KISD website.
  • Annual performance survey of KISD superintendent and trustees by KISD staff and families with results posted on KISD website.
  • Periodic campus and department visits will be conducted to ensure support and resource requirements are being met and issues and concerns addressed.
  • Ensure KISD financial spending and budgetary requirements are necessary to ensure educational needs, district growth and the efficient and effective allocation of resources.
  • Ensure that KISD’s taxpayer dollars are spent efficiently resulting in an investment in education and all decisions are made in the open and on the record.
  • Open door policy at all levels within KISD (superintendent, administration and campus).
  • Access to KISD School Board of Trustees at any time and not just at school board meetings.
  • Ensure KISD’s website is accessible to all, regardless of technology or ability.
